Sunglasses

UV light exposure adds up over time and it can lead to both acute and long term damages to the eyes.   Having a good quality pair of sunglasses is essential.  If you need corrective lenses to see distance, prescription sunglasses will provide not only clear vision and UV protection, they also give you a stylish look.  Sunglasses protects the delicate skin around your eyes as well.

  • Children are much more susceptible to UV light radiation.

  • Up to 80% of a person's lifetime exposure to UV light is reached by age 18. 

  • The lens inside of a child's eye can not filter the UV light as effectively as adults

  • Children spend much more time outdoors which results in more exposure to the harmful rays

  • Spending a day at the beach on a sunny summer day without sunglasses may cause photokeratitis, or "sunburn of the eye". 

  • UV radiation is a risk factor of cataract, retinal damage, macular degeneration, pterygium, pinguecula (the yellow spots on the white part of the eye) and cancer of the eye or eyelids.
